Certified Parent Support Partner (CPSP)

A Certified Parent Support Partner (CPSP) is the parent of a child with emotional, behavioral, or other mental health challenges, including intellectual and developmental disabilities. A CPSP brings both personal experiences and knowledge of raising a child with these challenges to the role, empowering families and giving them much needed hope. A CPSP is sensitive and respectful of family individual needs, preferences, values, and life experiences. A CPSP is a member of the treatment team and is included in service planning and implementation.

The CPSP works directly with the child’s parent, using personal experience and knowledge to support family engagement in the treatment process. A CPSP may help with service planning, accessing resources, navigate a variety of systems, and uses his/her experience to support parents, becoming a trusted ally in whom parents can confide.

A CPSP believes that parents are their child’s best advocate and should be empowered to use their voice. An empowered parent has the knowledge and skills to make informed choices and take action. They are able to seek out resources and supports. An empowered parent has confidence and believes in their ability to meet the complex needs of their child and family.

Q.  Who can receive PSP services?
