Youth Peer Support

Youth ages 12 - 18, with serious emotional disturbances, may have a Youth Peer Specialist (YPSS) to support them one-on-one in achieving their goals through shared activities and other interventions.*

*Youth must have a referral from LifeWays to receive YPSS services.

Key Activities

  • Enhance relationships with youth and family

  • Equip youth as full participants in their own treatment

  • Teach self-advocacy, problem-solving and independent living skills

  • Empower youth to build understanding in others about their unique mental health needs

What is a Youth Peer Support Specialist?

A YPSS is a person between the ages of eighteen and twenty-eight who has lived experience navigating the behavioral health system. YPSS’ use their unique experience to support youth with serious emotional disturbances. They can assist with community integration, improving family relationships and resolving conflicts, and making the transition to adulthood. YPSS is ARE’s newest service and we are so excited to have YPSSs on our team!
